Cloudflare Unleashes AI Agents to Fully Automate Cloud Infrastructure Setup – No Human Needed

San Francisco, CA – Cloudflare has activated a new capability that allows AI agents to independently create accounts, subscribe to paid plans, register domains, and deploy code without further human intervention after initial acceptance of terms. The move, announced today, marks a radical shift in how developers and enterprises can provision cloud resources.

“Starting now, an AI agent working for a human can open a Cloudflare account, start a paid subscription, register a domain, and receive an API token to deploy code – all in one shot,” said Sid Chatterjee and Brendan Irvine-Broque, Cloudflare product managers, in a joint blog post. The only step requiring a human is accepting the cloud company’s terms of service.

This streamlined process could dramatically accelerate development cycles, but security experts warn it also hands cybercriminals a powerful tool. David Shipley, CEO of Beauceron Security, noted that adversaries are constantly rebuilding infrastructure as defenders disrupt their operations. “Making it even faster to build new infrastructure and deploy it quickly is a huge win for them,” Shipley said.

Background: How the New Protocol Works

Cloudflare co-designed the protocol with Stripe, building on the Cloudflare Code Mode MCP server and Agent Skills. Any platform with signed-in users can integrate it with “zero friction” for the user, according to the company.

The protocol is part of Stripe Projects (still in beta). It enables both humans and AI agents to provision multiple services – including AgentMail, Supabase, Hugging Face, Twilio, and dozens of others – and to generate and store credentials while managing usage and billing from the command line. Each agent receives an initial $100 per month, per provider, to spend autonomously.

Users need only install the Stripe CLI with the Stripe Projects plugin, log in to Stripe, start a new project, prompt an agent to build something, and deploy to a new domain. If the user’s Stripe login email matches an existing Cloudflare account, an OAuth flow initiates automatically; otherwise, Cloudflare creates a new account for both the user and the agent.

From there, the autonomous agent builds and deploys a site to a fresh Cloudflare account, uses the Stripe Projects CLI to register a domain, and the app goes live on that domain. The agent prompts for human input only “when necessary,” for instance if no payment method is linked.

What This Means

While this capability promises unprecedented speed for legitimate developers and product builders, it raises serious governance and security concerns. “Over-trust in autonomous tools is a worrying trend,” noted Shipley. The automation removes traditional human-in-the-loop safeguards, potentially enabling rapid, unchecked infrastructure creation.

Cloudflare is betting that the productivity gains outweigh the risks. To jumpstart adoption, the company is offering $100,000 in Cloudflare credits to startups using the feature via Stripe Atlas, which also helps firms incorporate, set up banking, and raise funds. Whether the cloud industry is truly ready for AI agents holding the keys remains an open question.
