What You'll Do

During the three weeks, you will actively contribute to Carbon Brief's editorial output. Your responsibilities include:

• Research, write, and publish an original article for Carbon Brief's website.
• Promote your article using visuals and social media channels.
• Assist with research and writing for Carbon Brief's award-winning newsletters.
• Help shape coverage of breaking climate developments by identifying stories in scientific papers and policy documents.
• Create and discuss content for social media platforms.

You'll also shadow various team members—from journalists covering climate science to Chinese emissions specialists, as well as experts in visuals and social media—giving you a holistic view of how a small, independent yet globally impactful journalism team operates.

Skills Required

To succeed in this internship, you should demonstrate:

• Strong interest in climate change and its intersections with society, policy, and science.
• Some experience writing on a technical topic for a general audience (includes self-publishing, blogging, or student journalism).
• Commitment to journalistic integrity and accuracy.
• Competency in word processing and spreadsheets (e.g., MS Word/Excel or Google Docs/Sheets).
• Excellent spoken and written English.
• Experience with social media (e.g., Twitter/X, Instagram) is a plus.

Note: No prior professional journalism experience is required—enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are highly valued.

Logistics

• Location: Hybrid format – time in person at Carbon Brief's offices near London Bridge station plus remote working.
• Reporting to: Associate Editor Daisy Dunne.
• Duration: 13–31 July 2025 (three weeks). Office hours are 9am–5pm Monday–Friday with a one-hour lunch break.
• Salary: £14.80 per hour (London Living Wage) plus £100 travel bursary.
